Group proposes ideas for a greener Houston
The Citizens’ Environmental Coalition called for creating a mass transit/commuter plan for the Houston-Galveston region, as well as other short-term goals, as part of its Visions for a Greener Houston Summit report for government representatives and the public.
The June 7 report was based on recommendations from the summit held in February that focused on eight topics.
In the topic of food and native plants, goals included replacing the tree canopy and increasing the availability of locally grown foods to all residents.
Goals for the land, prairie, parks and green space topic included developing a “How to Establish a Pocket Park” packet and working on proactive standards for developers and builders.
In the waste and recycling topic, the summit set the goals of expanding recycling services, encouraging support for the Texas Bottle Bill and establishing more community recycling events and permanent drop-off sites.
