Adirondack Solar acquired by Hudson Valley Clean Energy

Adirondack Solar in Albany has been acquired by Hudson Valley Clean Energy of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County, in a move intended to expand market reach and strengthen buying power.

Terms of the deal, which had been in the works since March, were not disclosed.

The acquisition adds the Albany area and Adirondack Mountains to Hudson Valley Clean Energy’s service area, essentially doubling its territory.

Previously, Clean Energy serviced the Hudson Valley, while Adirondack Solar serviced the Capital Region and the North Country.

“We’re always looking long-term, and this will put us on more of a growth path. We can only grow so much organically,” said John Wright, vice president of Hudson Valley Clean Energy.

The family-owned company, which designs and installs solar systems, was founded eight years ago and employs 35 people.

Adirondack Solar, which was owned by its five partners, will retain its name and operate as a subsidiary of Hudson Valley Clean Energy.

Its employees will continue to work from 125 Wolf Road.
