Vestas announced Monday it hired Mark Preston as vice president of technology for its North American operations based in Portland.
Preston comes to Vestas from Megawatt Solar in Hillsborough, N.C. where he was chief operating officer. Prior to that he was a vice president of engineering and technology for Glacier Bay and vice president for engineering for Northern Power Systems.
Preston joins Vestas at a time when the company is hiring in North America even while its parent company, Vestas Wind Systems A/S based in Aarhus, Denmark, is warning that the wind energy industry could "fall off of cliff" if wind energy incentives aren't extended.
Vestas is targeting large corporate investors to market the benefits of wind energy with a new social media campaign.
Preston replaces Henrik Kanstrup Jorgensen as VP of technology. Jorgensen, a Vestas veteran, remains with the company's technology department in a chief specialist role.
